You can faff on about the meaning and her whole life story all you want, doesn't change that the art sucks, it doesn't fit magic, and that it was included is an indicator to the general trends of societal degradation today. So yeah, the "fall of western civilization" might be a bit hyperbolic and you can scoff at that all smug if you want, but over all it's not a wholly incorrect assertion. When a society falls, the standard of quality that society had falls with it.

I feel like Lantern Control represents the total reverse of my play style in magic. Despite this, I do find it interesting despite also being incredibly frustrated by it. I’m very stubborn, and I like my game actions. Conceding is not something I generally do, so lantern vexes me incredibly.

Lantern Control is perhaps one of the most miserable decks I have ever had the displeasure of playing against, & I wish it was still viable.

god was it an ugly card. I wouldnt even use it in my deck. But i didnt drag it through the mud.

Its also incredibly ironic that riveteers ascendancy only cares about you sacrificeing expensive creatures, implying that even when they've made it to the top, the best thing a riveteer can do is sacrifice himself or his friends for value

As someone who hated this art. The reason it got such backlash is due to its a very niche art style. It's invokes unsettlingness. It makes people feel uncomfortable looking at it. Art is subjective and each person likes different art.

Dislike bar does not work so I would just go with the new age way of seeing how controversial something is "commends vs likes" : 2 to 1. This is all you nee to know that people in general do not like this art. Whether you came here to defend it or put some some hate, there is an old saying "where there is smoke, there is fire": At best the card art is divisive and at worst it is shiit.

I started pla MTG exactly 20 years ago when _Eternal Witness_ came out on Fifth Dawn set. Terese's Eternal is even today one of my favorite cards AND art.

I disagree with the idea that the deck is anything more than a simple deck. Yes there are some choices to make but the deck generally leans heavily on its opening hand. I think its great for the deck to exist though, because its always offered an entry point for beginners

I didnt realize people disliked this artwork so much. It didnt really stand out to me during Strixhaven because all the catds from the Archive were all so unique. My favorite from the Wester Art is Brainstorm and JP would be Lightning Helix.

A friend of mine decades ago had a Garfield alter called "Big, Bad Sol Ring". It tapped for 20, but said this mana couldn't be spent on costs with X in them (this was during an era when mana burn existed). Yes, it was as broken as you think it was.

I really like this artwork, and I am actually quite happy that carly didn't give the figure lipstick. Like, this piece makes me feel weirdly comfortable with my gender identity, and I believe some of that comfort would be lost of the figure would be more clearly feminine.

Okay, but what happens if two lantern controls piloted by experts play each other?

I feel like Monopoly (when played without house rules and by the book) is similar to lantern control: When you play optimally, you buy houses and not hotels, locking your opponents out of the game because they now can't buy houses (as the rules state that once there are no houses left, no one can buy houses), and at that point the game is effectively over.

She didn’t deserve the hate she got. That doesn’t change the fact that it was a mistake to use her style for a fantasy game. It wasn’t unreasonable for the audience to have a negative reaction when they’re promised a product is going to be a certain way and given something else.

Lantern control in a way is control in its purest form. It controls the game to such a degree that losing is no longer an option - like that quote says.

Alright, was I among the rest who criticized this artwork? Yes. I still stand by it. That being said, sure her artwork could have some pieces I like. But, I will mention that society's well-being can be judged based on it's artworks, and America do be looking like Rakdos these days. Also, abstract art is the work of the devil and is used primarily by post-modern troglodytes who want to drag the world under their delusions of what's considered "art". There, I said it.

It looks good. I haven't used the card but I would use this art if I would. You're a great artist.
